In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be female.
  3. Must be returning to education after at least five years of absence.
  4. Must be a resident of Dutchess county.
  5. Must plan to attend an accredited institution of higher education located in the Mid-Hudson Valley region.
  6. Must plan to enroll as an undergraduate or graduate student.

Description: This award is available for female residents of Dutchess County, NY who are returning to college after an absence of at least five years. Applicants must plan to attend an accredited institution of higher education located in the Mid-Hudson Valley region.

Additional Information: The Chamber Foundation Inc. announces the availability of the ATHENA Scholarship. Established by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce to encourage increased leadership roles for women in our community this scholarship is available to any female who lives works or volunteers in Dutchess County has been out of high school for at least 5 years and is pursuing education at an accredited Mid-Hudson Valley college, university, or trade school or through an accredited online educational program while maintaining residency in Dutchess County.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $1,500 provided annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available online from The Chamber Foundation, Inc. website at the address provided. In addition to the completed application, each applicant must submit two letters of recommendation (one academic and one personal); a copy of his/her most recent transcript; a copy of the student's Student Aid Report (SAR) and Expected Family Contribution (EFC) information; and an essay of approximately 500 words responding to the prompt listed on the application. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
