Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll full time.
  3. Must perform research in the field of polymer extrusion. The student must also have a demonstrated or expressed interest in the plastics industry and be majoring in or taking courses that are beneficial to a career in the plastics/polymer industry. This would include, but is not limited to, plastics engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and industrial engineering.
  4. Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student interested in research. The student must be a Ph.D. candidate, or be working on a senior or master's project.

Description: U.S. and international undergraduate and graduate students who are performing research in the field of polymer extrusion are eligible for this award. Applicants must be a Ph.D. candidate, or be working on a senior or M.S. project.

Additional Information: Applicants must be in good academic standing with their schools. Financial need is considered for most scholarships. All scholarships will be paid directly to the recipients' schools. The SPE Foundation will not award scholarships to applicants who are not qualified and reserves the right to not award a scholarship in a given year if it so chooses.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online from the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) Foundation website. Please note: The student need only one submit one application to apply for all scholarships for which he/she is eligible. Each student must upload the following documents to the online application: a recommendation letter from the faculty advisor for his/her research project; a high school and/or college transcript for the last two years; a listing of current and past school activities and community activities and honors; a listing of his/her employment history, starting with his/her most recent job; a one- to two-page essay telling why he/she is applying for the scholarship, his/her qualifications, and his/her educational and career goals in the plastics industry; and a description of his/her research project, including background, objective, and proposed experiments. Please note: If the student is unable to upload his/her transcript to the online application, he/she may submit the transcript via email or mail using the addresses provided. All application materials must be submitted by the deadline date.
