Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually, one to a woman in or entering the early stages of graduate training and one to a woman in a more advanced stage of training.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a woman.
  4. Must have been admitted to a graduate program (M.S. or Ph.D.) by July 1 of the award year. Women in or entering the early stages of graduate training are especially encouraged to apply.
  5. Must enroll full time.
  6. Must study statistics (includes biostatistics and other statistical sciences).

Additional Information: The Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship was established in 1989 to encourage more women to enter statistically-oriented professions. Awards will be presented at the Annual Joint Statistical Meetings.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online on the American Statistical Association (ASA) website. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following materials: three academic reference letters; a personal essay of at least one page, double spaced, addressing the topics listed on the application; and all academic transcripts. Please note: Applications will be considered complete if unofficial transcripts (preferably electronic) have been received by the deadline date, but awards cannot be made without official transcripts. Applications may be mailed or emailed using the contact information provided, and must be received by the deadline date.
