The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS)

Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll full time at an accredited college or university.
  3. Must pursue a career in metallurgical and/or materials science and engineering with an emphasis on all aspects of the high-temperature, high-performance materials used in the gas turbine industry and all other applications. Preference will be given to students pursuing a curriculum or career in superalloys.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must be in good standing at a recognized degree-granting school to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.

Description: This award is available for international and U.S. undergraduate and/or graduate students who are pursing a career in metallurgical and/or materials science and engineering with an emphasis on all aspects of the high-temperature, high-performance materials used in the gas turbine industry and all other applications. Preference will be given to students pursuing a curriculum or career in superalloys. Students must also have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the International Symposium on Superalloys Scholarship are:

  • Application form

  • Recommendation letter
  • Personal statement
Additional Information: The following criteria will be assessed by the scholarship selection committee to select the recipients of this scholarship: scholarship application; academic achievement; activities in and out of school, including work experience; leadership; personal profile statement; and letters of recommendation. Relatives of members of the TMS Student Affairs Committee or of the TMS Funding Committee/Division are not eligible. Please note: The applicant may apply for up to two of the TMS Scholarship Programs.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable. Up to $250 for travel expenses will be available to the recipients to attend the TMS Annual Meeting to accept the award.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,250.
