In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Kansas.
  3. Must pusue a major in optometry and plan to establish a practice in Kansas in Optometry.
  4. Must plan to enroll full time.
  5. Must plan to enroll at one of the following institutions: University of Missouri at St. Louis, School of Optometry; Southern College of Optometry in Tennessee; or Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, College of Optometry.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  7. This award is for graduate students.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Kansas residents who plan to establish an optometry practice in Kansas are eligible for this award. Students must enroll full time at the University of Missouri at St. Louis, Southern College of Optometry in Tennessee, or Northeastern State University in Oklahoma.

Additional Information: The State of Kansas has an agreement with three Schools of Optometry for Kansas students to receive the Kansas Optometry Service Scholarship: Kansas participates in a reciprocal agreement with the State of Missouri by which 12 Kansas residents, including three first-time entering students, may enroll in the Missouri School of Optometry, University of Missouri - St. Louis and pay resident fees. The Kansas contract with the Southern College of Optometry, Memphis, Tennessee, 12 seats including three first-time entering students; or the School of Optometry at Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, Oklahoma, 8 seats including two first-time entering students.

Award Amount: The difference between resident and non-resident tuition at eligible out-of-state institutions is paid by the state of Kansas.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Students do not apply for this award directly. Each participating school selects the students who may participate in the program. For scholarship consideration, eligible students must have completed a residency application. The residency application is available from the Kansas Board of Regents website site and from the financial aid office of participating institutions. For scholarship consideration, the residency application must be submitted to the Kansas Board of Regents by the deadline date.
