Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a member of Phi Lambda Sigma in good standing.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. Must be studying in the pharmaceutical sciences .
  5. Must be a senior pharmacy student enrolled in a dual-degree pathway leading to a professional degree in pharmacy and the Ph.D. Applicants must be in the final year of professional studies or have completed professional studies.

Description: This scholarship is available to members of Phi Lambda Sigma who are senior pharmacy student enrolled in a dual-degree pathway leading to a professional degree in pharmacy and the Ph.D. Applicants must be in the final year of professional studies or have completed professional studies.

Application requirements for the Phi Lambda Sigma-AFPE First Year Graduate School Scholarship are:

  • Copies of test scores
Additional Information: The Phi Lambda Sigma awardee will be chosen by a three-member selection committee composed of the executive director and president of the society and either the president or chairman of the Board of Grants of AFPE. The recipient will be invited to attend an award ceremony held during the Annual Meeting of the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA) in March.

Award Amount: $7,500 annually, non-renewable. The award may be used for any purpose decided by the awardee and faculty sponsor that will enable the student to have a successful program -- e.g., student stipend, laboratory supplies, books, materials, travel, etc. related to the program of graduate study. None of the funds shall be used for indirect costs by the institution. Funding for successful applicants will be provided in two equal stipends on Sept. 1 and Feb. 1, and upon receipt of confirmation that the student is enrolled in a pharmacy college graduate program for the Ph.D.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $7,500.

Application information is available on the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE) website. To apply, the student must submit the following documents: letters of recommendation from two college faculty members who are acquainted with him/her and his/her potential for graduate study; the name of the graduate school that he/she plans to attend (if known); a one- or two-page statement elaborating reasons for wishing to attend graduate school; a list of special honors, awards and accomplishments in high school and college reflecting achievement and ability to succeed in graduate school; and an official transcript of all collegiate grades and copies of GRE, SAT, and other national achievement test scores. All materials must be sent to the address provided, and must be received on or before the deadline date. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered.
