Additional Information: The Southern Scholarship Foundation (SSF) is a self-help program that provides rent-free housing for college students. By offering rent-free housing, students have the opportunity to gain experiences that will enable them to become successful in their personal lives as well as in their careers. Cash scholarships are not provided. Upon admission to the program, students are responsible for maintaining the daily operation of the scholarship houses. Male and female students live in and maintain their individual houses; no co-ed housing is available. Each house has an established house constitution and elected officers. The students prepare and follow their own budget, cook together, clean together, and form bonds with their housemates that will last a lifetime. Sharing responsibilities affords numerous opportunities for students to develop leadership and business skills and acquire a basic education in practical living. Each student must be highly motivated and be willing to share household duties and responsibilities in a cooperative spirit. Applicants are strongly encouraged to arrange a personal interview with the Foundation's staff in Tallahassee or Gainesville.

Award Amount: Students will receive free rent for housing valued at $5,000 annually. No cash awards will be given. This award is renewable for up to three years as long as the student continues to demonstrate financial need, maintains a 2.85 grade point average, and lives cooperatively within the house.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,000.
