In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international students.
  2. Must be an Indian passport holder.
  3. Must have completed one or more years of graduate work in the United States at time of application.
  4. Must attend Columbia University.

Description: This award is available to graduate students who are Indian passport holders and have completed one or more years of graduate study in the United States.

Application requirements for the Taraknath Das Foundation Grant-in-Aid are:

  • Application form

  • Recommendation letter
  • Essay
  • Personal statement
  • Photocopy of passport
Additional Information: Applicants must demonstrate substantial financial need. The competition for these grants is fierce, and the awardees are excellent and deserving. Grants are currently awarded in October.

Award Amount: Approximately $3,000 to $7,000 annually, non-renewable. This amount can vary based on the recipient's financial need and the amount of funding available.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,500.

Applications are available on the Taraknath Das Foundation website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following materials: a transcript from his/her most recent academic institution; three sealed letters of recommendation (including one from his/her academic adviser); a photocopy of his/her passport; an essay of 500 words or less on on his/her academic plans; and a statement concerning his/her financial status (see application for specific topics to be addressed). A completed application and supporting materials must be submitted in one package and sent by the deadline date to the address provided.
