Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. resident.
  3. Must pursue an engineering or related science degree through an ABET-accredited program. The student must be pursuing a course of study or research related to the conservation of energy in transportation, agriculture & construction, and power generation. Emphasis will be placed on research or study related to the internal combustion engine.
  4. Must be a current college junior or postgraduate student at time of application.
  5. Must be a full-time student.

Additional Information: This scholarship is sponsored by the SAE Foundation and through the generous support from the Yanmar Diesel America Corporation. Applications will be judged based on previous scholastic performance with additional consideration given for special study or honors in the field of the award, and for leadership achievement related to engineering or science. Recipients will be selected by the SAE Scholarship Committee and notified by the end of June. All SAE Scholarship winners will be posted in July/August.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, renewable for one additional year. To renew, the student must submit a renewal form by May 30 annually. The scholarship may be used for tuition or any other incidental school expenses.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) website by clicking on the "Senior Year of College Scholarships" or "Graduate and Ph.D. Students Scholarships" link. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit an official college transcript. Application materials must be submitted online by the deadline.
