Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately thirty is awarded every year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be 30 old or younger as of the application deadline.
  2. Must be planning on starting or continuing an eligible graduate degree program full-time in the United States in the 2021-2022 academic year.
  3. Must have a bachelor’s degree as of fall 2021.
  4. Must be an immigrant to the U.S.

Additional Information: Paul and Daisy Soros are Hungarian immigrants and American philanthropists. They established their fellowship program for New Americans in December of 1997 with a charitable trust of $50 million dollars. In 2010, they added another $25 million as a way to give back to the U.S. Every year, The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans supports thirty New Americans, immigrants or the children of immigrants, who are pursuing graduate school in the United States. The following programs are not eligible for funding: Online programs, executive graduate programs, joint bachelors/master's programs in which both degrees are awarded simultaneously, certificate programs, post-baccalaureate programs, graduate programs that are not in the United States, and graduate programs that are not fully accredited. You must not have reached or passed your 31st birthday as of the application deadline. There is no minimum age requirement.

Award Amount: Each Fellowship supports one to two years of graduate study in any field and in any advanced degree-granting program in the United States. Each award is for up to $25,000 in stipend support a year, as well as 50 percent of required tuition and fees, up to $20,000 per year, for one to two years. The first year of Fellowship funding cannot be deferred. There are thirty recipients each year. The maximum PD Soros stipend is $25,000 per year, capping all stipend awards at $50,000 per year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $90,000.

Applicants need to sign up for an account on the SurveyMonkey Apply application site. The application asks you to confirm your eligibility as a New American who is 30 years or younger. Applicants also provide personal and contact information. This includes your higher education history and a list of the graduate program(s) for which you seek support. You’ll need to provide at least 3 recommendations and submit a resume, two essays, transcripts (college, graduate), scores on standardized tests (if required for admission to your graduate program) and any optional exhibits.
