Number of Awards & Eligibility: The researchers are reimbursed by the ASA and are on a guest worker arrangement with the agency. The stipends received by researchers in this program are commensurate with their qualifications and experience.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a professional in the fields of statistics, mathematics, economics, survey methodology, behavioral science, and other related fields.
  2. Must be pursuing post-doctoral research.

Description: The fellowship will facilitate collaboration between academic scholars and government researchers in math, statistics, economics, survey methodology, and behavioral science. Research Fellows are provided the unique opportunity to address some of the complex methodological problems and analytic issues.

Application requirements for the ASA/NSF/BLS Senior Research Fellow Program are:

  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
  • in cooperation with the American Statistical Association (ASA)
  • under a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Applicants must submit a detailed research proposal.
Additional Information: The ASA/NSF/BLS Senior Research Fellow Program is for professionals in the fields of statistics, mathematics, economics, survey methodology, behavioral science, and other related fields. Fellows will travel to the Washington, DC office to work directly with the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) staff to resolve and study complex issues of significant interest to BLS, such as small area estimation, non-sampling error, item imputation, or survey methodology. Final decisions will be made in the late Spring.

Award Amount: Fellowship funding may cover salary, fringe benefits, housing, travel, research support. Salaries received by Fellows will be commensurate with their qualifications and experience.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $60,000.
