Number of Awards & Eligibility: 20 percent of doctoral students studying on campus receive Cornell University Fellowships
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be accepted to a graduate program at Cornell University to receive this award.
  2. Must be applying to graduate school at the time of fellowship application. Returning graduate students are not eligible for consideration.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The Cornell Fellowships provide one semester or one academic year of funding, including stipend, tuition, and individual health insurance. This award is taken in the first year, unless otherwise noted by your field. These fellowships may be awarded to U.S. students, permanent residents, or international students.

Application requirements for the Cornell Fellowship are:

  • Prospective students apply for fellowships on the admissions application
Additional Information: The graduate field to which you are applying will consider your eligibility for fellowships based on your application; no additional information is required. Admitted Ph.D. students will be notified of any fellowship awards as part of the admissions offer.

Award Amount: The University fellowships award $27,218 for Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences or $31,380 for Physical Sciences & Engineering and Life Sciences fellows. The financial support enables a graduate student to pursue his or her degree without any obligation on the part of the student to engage in teaching and/or research in furtherance of the university's academic mission.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $29,000.

Prospective students apply for fellowships on the admissions application. Admissions deadlines begin January 15, and students are advised to check with the department they are applying for admissions with for specific deadlines related to their course of study.
