Number of Awards & Eligibility: The Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant numbers are subject to the availability of federally-appropriated funds.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  2. Must have an academic and professional background in storytelling.
  3. Must hold a bachelor's degree or higher degree at the time of application.

Description: The Fulbright-National Geographic Fellowship seeks researchers with a talent for and interest in storytelling. For this application cycle, the National Geographic is most interested in a project focused on Oceans and Water. It should have focus in plastics, community coastal and fishery management, and biodiversity.

Application requirements for the Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling Fellowship are:

  • storytelling portfolio
Additional Information: Fulbright-National Geographic Fellows must be selected for a Fulbright Study/Research Grant by the eligible country for which they applied and meet the criteria of the Fulbright Study/Research requirements of the host country. Candidates from all fields are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience and talent in storytelling. Candidates must have completed at least an undergraduate degree by the start of the Fulbright award. Finalists will be notified of finalist status in Spring 2020.

Award Amount: The Fulbright fellowship pays transportation costs to and from the host country. Also, funding to cover room, board, and incidental costs, based on the cost of living in the host country. Also, accident, sickness and health benefits. Other stipends may cover costs related to tuition, research, books and orientations.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $50,000.
