Number of Awards & Eligibility: Fellows will receive a stipend of $6,000. This stipend is payable in two installments: 2/3 at the beginning of the program and 1/3 upon acceptance of the Fellow’s final report. No support for indirect costs or laboratory expenses is provided.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be pursuing studies in medical, dental, public health, public policy, and graduate level nursing.
  2. Must be pursuing a Master's Degree.

Description: The Margaret E. Mahoney Fellowship in Health Policy program is an opportunity for outstanding medical, dental, public health, public policy, and graduate nursing students. It enables them to conduct summer research projects on early childhood health and development and/or some aspect of health care delivery transformation for vulnerable populations. This includes an emphasis on the policy implications of the research findings.

Application requirements for the Margaret E. Mahoney Fellowship Program are:

Additional Information: The New York Academy of Medicine administers the Margaret E. Mahoney Fellowship in Health Policy program. It is for master’s level medical, dental, public health, public policy and nursing students. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident. Or authorized to work in the U.S. throughout the award period.

Award Amount: Fellows will receive a stipend of $6,000. This stipend is paid in two installments: 2/3 at the beginning of the program and 1/3 upon acceptance of the Fellow’s final report.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,000.

Applicants must propose a research project and research mentor. The project should focus on a health policy issue (government policy at national/state/local level, institutional, or health facility policy). It should have clear goals and a plan for making progress on this issue that can be completed during a 10-week period. Applicants must complete an online application that involves uploading required materials and forms. All submissions must be received by the deadline date.
