The winner will receive a $2,500 cash prize. The winner will also be invited to perform his/her solo selection in concert with the Marine Band in the Washington, D.C. area in March. Travel for the winner and one guardian will be provided.
One award offered annually.
Based on the application materials, finalists will be selected and invited to Washington, D.C., to compete in a final round that will be open to the public. All finalists will be notified by Jan. 1. Travel and lodging expenses are the responsibility of the finalists. The finals will be held at in the John Philip Sousa Band Hall at the Marine Barracks Annex in Washington, D.C. at 2:00 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2020. Finalists will perform the same selection submitted with their application materials in front of an audience and panel of judges consisting of the Marine Band Director, the Marine Band Assistant Directors, and a guest judge from the College Band Directors National Association. Previous competition winners and immediate family members of U.S. Marine Band members are not eligible.
