Number of Awards & Eligibility: All qualified applicants will be considered. In the 2013-2014 academic year, there were 18,919 awards disbursed.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully present in the United States.
  3. Must be a resident of Oklahoma.
  4. Must be currently enrolled in 8th, 9th, or 10th grade (or be a homeschool student who is 13, 14, or 15 years of age).
  5. Must be currently enrolled in an Oklahoma high school.
  6. Must plan to enroll in an Oklahoma postsecondary institution within three years after graduating high school. (Limited exemptions exist for students on active military duty.)
  7. Must have a family income from taxed and untaxed sources of $50,000 or less at the time of application. Please note: The income of the student's parents may not exceed $100,000 at the time the student begins college and prior to receiving any program benefit.

Additional Information: Oklahoma's Promise is a state program, administered through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, established to awards scholarships to students who have demonstrated a commitment to academic success in high school. The student must complete the program's high school requirements in order to receive the college scholarship. The requirements include the following: graduate from high school; achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher for all coursework attempted in grades 9-12; complete the 17-unit college prep core curriculum. The curriculum courses are listed on the Oklahoma's Promise website. Homeschooled students and students graduating from a non-accredited high school must also achieve an ACT score of 22 or higher. Additional high school requirements are listed on the application and on the Oklahoma's Promise website. The student must also meet certain college requirements to receive the scholarship. The requirements include the following: shall meet normal admission standards for first-time entering students at the college or university to which the student applies; must meet the eligibility requirements to receive federal financial aid based on the college's Satisfactory Academic Progress policy; and must achieve a college grade point average of at least 2.00 for courses taken through the sophomore year and at least a 2.50 grade point average for courses taken during the junior and senior years. The student will lose the scholarship permanently if he/she is suspended from college for more than one semester for conduct reasons.

Award Amount: Oklahoma's Promise will pay tuition at an Oklahoma public two-year college or four-year university, or a portion of tuition at an accredited Oklahoma private college or university, or a portion of tuition for approved courses at public technology centers that grant credit toward an Associate in Applied Science degree. Students may receive awards for no more than five years after enrolling in college, or until the completion of a bachelor's degree.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,235.

Applications are available from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) Oklahoma Promise website. Applications may be completed online or downloaded and completed in paper form. As part of the application, the student must have his/her parent(s) complete a Family Income Worksheet. The parent(s) must also provide the first two pages of the most recent federal tax return. The application and supporting documentation must be mailed to the address provided and must be postmarked by the deadline date. Please note: The deadline date does not apply to homeschooled students; for those students, the application must be postmarked before the student's 16th birthday.
