Description: The Equal Pay Day Chicago Student Journalism Contest is available for high school students in Chicago who submit an essay on the topic of equal pay and existing pay disparities in the United States. Click here to learn more and to apply today!

Application requirements for the Equal Pay Day Chicago Student Journalism Contest are:

Additional Information: Entrants must be available to read a selection of their article submission on stage during the Equal Pay Day event in Daley Plaza on March 31, 2020. The event will occur between noon and 1 p.m. The focus of Equal Pay Day Chicago is to draw attention to and raise awareness for the goal of equal pay for equal work in America. Submissions must remain focused on this topic, and the submission that speaks to the cause most effectively will be selected as the winning entry.

Award Amount: $400 for first prize and $150 for second. The recipients may also be invited to share selections of their work on stage during the Equal Pay Day event.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $650.

Additional information about this scholarship and how to apply is available online at the provided link. To be considered for an award, students must write an essay of between 450 and 750 words in length that addresses any inequality or disparity among workers in America. The article should include at least one quoted source discussing the issue of equal pay, and students may video record any such interview in addition to the written portion of their submission. PDF format is preferred, and students must also include the following information on a seperate sheet from the essay itself: the student's name, age grade, and contact information; school, sponsoring teacher's name and contact information; and the applicant's parents contact information (for verification of eligibility). All essays must be submitted by email to the provided address and must be received no later than the deadline date.
