Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be enrolled in high school.
  3. Must be 13 to 19 years of age.

Description: This essay contest is open to U.S. and international students who are 13 to 19 years of age and enrolled in high school. Students must write an essay discussing whether people who live with bipolar disorder are stimgatized in their community.

Additional Information: Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges, and will be announced by May 1. Essays will become property of International Bipolar Foundation and will not be returned. Contestants agree to allow International Bipolar Foundation to publicize their essays.

Award Amount: Scholarships are awarded as follows: first place, $1,000; second place, $500; third place, $250. Scholarships are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $583.

Applications are available on the International Bipolar Foundation (IBPF) website. To apply, each student must write an essay of 500 to 1,000 words on the topic "Are people who live with bipolar disorder stigmatized in your community?". Detailed information on how to approach the topic and resources are available on the IBPF website. Essays must be written in English and be in Times New Roman 12-point font. It is preferred that essays be in Word document format. Entries must be original work. The student must provide his/her teacher's or counselor's email address on the application, and must upload his/her essay to the application. Applications must be submitted by the deadline date.
