Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 247 awards offered annually. Please note: Children and grandchildren will compete separately against other children and grandchildren in their state. Each state is eligible to receive a number of awards based on its past support of the Elks National Foundation. Each state's quota is divided evenly among children and grandchildren. In states where the quota is an uneven number, the extra award is allocated to children of Elks, rather than grandchildren.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be the child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk member who joined the order on or before April 1, 2015, or a charter member of a lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2015. The sponsoring Elk must be a paid-up member through March 31, 2015. Great-grandchildren are not eligible. Please note: If the applicant's parent and grandparent are both Elk members, the applicant must apply through the parent's Elks Lodge.
  3. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

Description: The Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships available to children and grandchildren of Elks members. Legacy Awards may only be applied to accredited US American schools, colleges or universities. Selected recipients will be required to perform service once a year with an Elks Lodge during the four years of receiving the scholarship.

Application requirements for the 2021 Legacy Awards Contest are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Essays
  • SAT/ACT scores
Additional Information: Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships ($1,000 per year for four years). The Foundation will offer a total of 350 awards in the 2021 contest. A total of 250 possible awards are allocated to various states. The remaining 100 at large scholarships are for the best scoring applicants regardless of state and parentage. Children and grandchildren will compete separately against other children and grandchildren in their state. Each state is eligible to receive a number of awards based on its past support of the Elks National Foundation. Each state’s quota is divided evenly among children and grandchildren. In states where the quota is an uneven number, the extra award is allocated to children of Elks, rather than grandchildren.

Award Amount: Up to $4,000 scholarships offered.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $988,000.
