Number of Awards & Eligibility: Six awards offered annually. One award is offered for each national district of AMVETS.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a graduating high school senior entering college at the freshman level in the upcoming fall semester.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must have a veteran parent, grandparent, or guardian.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  6. Must be the child or grandchild of a United States veteran who is an AMVETS member, or if deceased, would have been eligible for AMVETS membership.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to children or grandchildren of a United States veteran who is an AMVETS member, or if deceased, would have been eligible for AMVETS membership. The applicant must be a high school senior with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the AMVETS National Scholarship Program for High School Seniors are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • FAFSA
  • SAT/ACT
  • Acceptance letter
  • Resume
  • AMVETS card or honorable discharge letter
  • Essay
  • Tax form
Additional Information: The purpose of this scholarship is to make the goal of postsecondary education more attainable for the children and grandchildren of veterans by assisting deserving students who might not otherwise have the financial means to achieve their educational goals. The applicant must demonstrate academic promise/merit and financial need and must agree to authorize AMVETS to publicize his/her scholarship award, if he/she is selected. The scholarship must be used in its entirety within five years of the award date. Any amount remaining unused within five years will be forfeited.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, renewable for up to three years. The student must maintain a 2.0 grade point average to be eligible for renewal each year. Please note: The scholarship must be used in its entirety within five years of the award date. Any amount unused within five years will be forfeited.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.
