Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 12 scholarships will be provided each year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  2. Must demonstrate a strong track record of advocating for animals and an impressive and clear plan to continue working to reduce the human-inflicted suffering of animals.

Description: The Animal Welfare Institute Scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors who have volunteer or professional experience in advancing animal welfare. Applicants must provide two letters of recommendation that demonstrate a history of such efforts.

Application requirements for the Animal Welfare Institute Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
Additional Information: All applications will be reviewed by a committee of judges who will select finalists based on how successfully the application demonstrates a commitment to advancing animal welfare. Finalists will be required to provide proof of enrollment or acceptance in to an accredited college or university.

Award Amount: Each scholarship winner will receive $2,000 as well as a subscription to AWI Quarterly magazine. Scholarships are awarded on a one-time basis and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $24,000.
