Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Arkansas.
  3. Must be enrolled, or be accepted for admission to, an approved school Arkansas public institution.
  4. Must be the dependent or the spouse of an Arkansas resident who was killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty while working in a law enforcement or public service position.
  5. Must be less than 23 years of age.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  7. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate associate’s or bachelor’s degree program.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Arkansas residents who are attending an Arkansas state-supported college or university. The student must be the dependent or the spouse of an Arkansas resident who was killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty while working in a law enforcement or public service position.

Application requirements for the Arkansas Law Enforcement Officers’ Dependents Scholarship Program are:

Additional Information: The Law Enforcement Officers’ (LEO) Dependents Scholarship program provides an eight-semester scholarship to any state-supported college, university, or technical institute in Arkansas to dependents of Arkansas residents in one of the categories below who were killed or permanently disabled in the line-of-duty: law enforcement officer (includes state highway patrolman, municipal and college/university police officer, sheriff or deputy sheriff, and constable); full-time or volunteer firefighter; state highway employee; state forestry employee; state correction employee; state park employee who is a commissioned law enforcement officer; emergency services worker; emergency medical technician; community punishment employee who suffers fatal injuries or wounds or becomes permanently and totally disabled as a result of injuries or wounds which occurred through contact with parolees, probationers, or center residents; or wildlife enforcement officer. Applications and supporting documentation will be reviewed for completeness and to determine whether the applicant meets all the required eligibility requirements. Applicants will be notified within thirty (30) days of receipt of all required documentation of the status of their application.

Applications are available from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE) website. Accessing the application requires students to register for an account using the electronic Arkansas Universal Financial Aid System. As part of the application, students must also submit the following eligibility documentations: a copy of the death certificate or injury report; an order of finding facts from the Arkansas State Claims Commission; and a copy of his/her birth certificate. The application deadline is July 1 annually.
