Description: High school juniors and seniors are eligible to apply for this award. To enter, students must write an essay of 800 to 1,600 words on one of the three topics listed on the Ayn Rand Institute website. Click here to learn more and apply today!

Additional Information: Essays will be judged on both style and content. Judges will look for writing that is clear, articulate and logically organized. Winning essays must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of the philosophic meaning of 'The Fountainhead'. Employees of the Ayn Rand Institute, its board of directors and their immediate family members are not eligible for this contest. Past first-place winners are not eligible for this contest. All information necessary to enter the contest is contained on the Ayn Rand website. Questions may be sent to the Ayn Rand Institute via the email address provided.

Award Amount: Awards are for cash prizes in the amounts of: Top Prize: $5,000; Second Prizes (3): $1,000; Third Prizes (5): $500   The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,500.

This is an essay contest; there is not an application for this award. To enter, students must write an essay of 800 to 1,600 words on one of the three topics listed on the Ayn Rand Institute website. Essays should be typewritten and double-spaced (one entry per student) and must be solely the work of the entrant. Essays may be mailed to the address provided, or submitted using the institute's online form. For essays being mailed: To avoid disqualification, a cover sheet must be stapled to the essay, and should include the following: name and address, email address (if available), the name and address of the student's high school (if home-schooled, write 'home-schooled'), topic selected, current grade level and (if applicable) the name of the teacher who assigned the essay (if he/she is completing it for classroom credit). All essays must be postmarked by the deadline date or submitted online no later than 11:59 p.m. PST by the deadline date.
