Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Delaware. Preference will be given to residents of Eastside Wilmington.
  4. Must be active in community service.
  5. Must be a graduating high school senior.
  6. Must enroll as a full-time student at an accredited institution.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to Delaware high school seniors who are not members of the Bethel AME Church and can demonstrate financial need and scholastic achievement. Preference is given to residents of Eastside Wilmington, DE.

Additional Information: Please note: Students who are members of Bethel AME Church are not eligible for this scholarship. Applicants for this award must demonstrate the following characteristics: financial need; demonstrated scholastic achievement; personal character; community involvement; and communication skills. Notifications are sent to recipients and applicants not selected to receive an award via email by the end of June.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available online on the Delaware Community Foundation (DCF) website. Please note: Questions about this program should be referred to the Bethel AME Scholarship Committee. Students must apply via the online application system, and will be required to register an account using their email address to access the application. Students need only submit one application to be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible. Each student must upload the following supporting documents to the application: ACT and/or SAT scores; high school transcript; a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report), which is generated after filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid); a copy of his/her or his/her parent's 2013 or 2014 federal tax return (Form 1040) showing Adjusted Gross Income (AGI); an essay of 300 words or less describing his/her future goals; an essay of 500 words or less explaining how a family member, mentor, or personal experience has been influential in his/her life; and contact information for a personal recommendation. The recommendation should be from someone outside his/her family who is familiar with his/her character through school, community, religious, and/or extracurricular activities. The recommender will be sent instructions for uploading his/her letter. The application and all supporting documents must be received by the deadline.
