Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be attending Ka'u High School in Pahala, HI.
  3. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  4. Must be a resident of Hawaii.
  5. Must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 or more credits per semester).
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

Description: This scholarship is available for Hawaii high school seniors who are attending Ka'u High School. Students must have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

Additional Information: This scholarship was established in 1991 by Charles Chidiac to honor Ka'u High School students. All applicants for this award must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: Approximately $800 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $800.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai'i Community Foundation's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed on the website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. For this scholarship, the applicant must include in his/her personal statement his/her views of why it is important for Hawaii students to be internationally aware. Note: A student will not be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. The application must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST on the deadline date.
