In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior.
  2. Must have a parent who has or had cancer.
  3. Must reside in Worcester County, MA.

Description: The Catherine Burgholzer Memorial Scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors in Worcester Massachusetts who have or had a parent with cancer.

Application requirements for the Catherine Burgholzer Memorial Scholarship are:

  • Transcript
  • Recommendation letter
Additional Information: The Catherine Burgholzer Memorial Scholarship is provided annually through the Greater Worcester Community Foundation (GWCF), and is awarded to local area high school seniors who have or had a parent with cancer. During the selection of winners, additional preference will be given to students from Shrewsbury High School as well as students who show a strong record of activity in community service.

Award Amount: $800 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $800.

The deadline for 2019 has passed, but the award is expected to be offered again in March of 2020. Please check back in January 2020 for updated information about this scholarship. Applications, instructions, and additional information about this scholarship can be found online at the Greater Worcester Community Foundation website. To apply for the Catherine Burgholzer Memorial Scholarship, students must complete the online scholarship application form. All applications will also require the student to upload a copy of current transcripts for all academic coursework completed at their current school, as well as a letter of recommendation from a teacher, employer, or other adult community leader who is familiar with the applicant. All applications and supporting documents must be received online no later than the deadline date.
