Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 42 scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Must be a high school senior or current undergraduate student at the time of application.
  5. Must be enrolled in nine or more credit hours per semester.

Description: This award is available for U.S. high school seniors and current undergraduate students who have been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Scholarships will be awarded based on a combination of financial need, academic achievement, and leadership.

Application requirements for the CFSF Standard Scholarship Program are:

Additional Information: Scholarships will be awarded based on a combination of financial need, academic achievement, and leadership. Applications will be notified about scholarship decisions on April 20, 2019.

Award Amount: Awards are generally $1,000 annually; however, some awards are in higher amounts. Last year, awards ranged up to $10,000 (non-renewable). Some awards are single-year, and some are multi-year. Students can reapply the following year for an additional award, but there is no guarantee they will receive one. Awards may be used for tuition, books, and room and board. Awards will be sent directly to the institution that the student is attending.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,500.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in mid January when applications are expected to become available. Applications are available on the Cystic Fibrosis Scholarship Foundation (CFSF) website. Applications are accepted from Jan. 15 until March 24. Please note: There are two types of applications, one for high school seniors and first-year college students and one for college students who have completed two or more semesters of study. The student must complete the appropriate application for his/her current level of study. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following materials: an essay of 500 words or more on the topic listed on the application; a copy of his/her and his/her parents'/spouse's 2014 or 2015 tax return (as appropriate); a note from his/her physician stating that he/she has been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis; an official high school transcript that includes ACT/SAT scores, if applicable (appropriate official must complete transcript section of the application); an official college transcript, if applicable (appropriate official must complete transcript section of the application); and a completed reference form from a counselor, administrator, or faculty member. Applications must be mailed to the address provided and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
