Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of the greater metropolitan Washinton, D.C. area.
  3. Must be a graduating high school senior who has been accepted to a two- or four-year college program.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must plan to enroll full time.
  6. Must be of Ethiopian heritage.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to graduating high school seniors in the greater metro area of Washington D.C. Selection is based on academic achievement, community service, and an application essay.

Application requirements for the Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel Ethiopian Heritage Scholarship are:

Additional Information: No person related by blood or marriage to any member or former member of the selection committee is eligible for an award. The recipient will be chosen on the basis of high school grade point average, the essay submitted, demonstrated community service, and conclusions the panel might draw from a personal interview as to the individual's motivation, character, ability, and potential. The awardee is required to make reports each grading period concerning his/her grades and academic standing during the scholarship period. Payments will be withheld when a grantee is not performing satisfactorily.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, paid in two equal installments of $500 on or about Aug. 15 and Feb. 5.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and the official rules form are available for download from the Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegal website. In addition to the completed and signed application form, the applicant must also submit: an official copy of his/her high school transcript; a copy of his/her acceptance letter from an accredited two- or four-year college; a list of community service provided; a 400-word essay based on one of the four topics listed on the application; and a signed copy of the scholarship's official rules. Applications will be accepted by mail and email, but they must be received by 5 p.m. EST on the deadline date in order to be considered.
