Number of Awards & Eligibility: 25 awards offered annually. Only 24 scholarships are available. No more than one student at a given public school can receive a scholarship, and no more than one student representing the private/home school category can receive a scholarship. Not every school will have a scholarship recipient.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a student whose home (primary residence) is served by Clay Electric Cooperative.
  4. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. high school seniors whose homes (primary residences) are served by Clay Electric Cooperative. Public-, private-, and home-schooled students are all eligible.

Application requirements for the Clay Electric Youth Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Essay
  • Recommendation letters (2)
Additional Information: Scholastic record, activities, employment, community service and recommendations are the primary considerations for this award. A scholarship committee will evaluate the applications and make a final selection of the 25 students. Scholarship award notification will be made at the applicable school award ceremonies. A certificate indicating the scholarship award will be presented to the scholarship winners. If the school does not have a year-end award ceremony for its seniors, notification will be sent by mail on or about May 31.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. The scholarship will be sent in the form of a check, made payable to the recipient, after registration documentation has been sent from the student's college, university or vocational/technical school. Registration documentation must be received no later than Nov. 18 to receive the award money. Any scholarship recipient who has not submitted his/her documentation by the Nov. 18 deadline will forfeit his/her scholarship to the next qualified alternate applicant.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

In addition to a completed application, the student must submit an essay of 150 words or less answering the question 'Why would you like to receive a $1,000 scholarship?'; and two letters of recommendation. Letters may be from a teacher, principal, guidance counselor, employer, family friend, minister, etc. The student should note that one section of the application must be completed and signed by his/her high school guidance counselor. It is recommended that students have this portion of the application completed prior to spring break week to ensure that the application will be complete in time for the deadline. Please note: School transcripts are not required and should not be submitted with the application. All areas of the application MUST be completed. Points will be deducted by the judges for incomplete areas. The application and all supporting materials must be sent to the address provided, postmarked by the deadline date.
