Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be of Latino descent.
  3. Must be a high school senior or currently enrolled in college at the time of application.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  6. Must be enrolled as a full-time student.

Description: This undergraduate award is for current high school seniors and college stduents of Latino descent studying at a community college or university in Chicago, IL. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: The Adelante! U.S. Education Leadership Fund was established in 1997 to fulfill the mission of inspiring the best and brightest Latino students to graduate and lead through scholarships, internships and leadership training. Recently, Adelante! has merged with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities to advance this mission with greater resources and coordination. This award is need-based, and as such applicants will be required to show proof of eligibility for state and/or federal financial assistance.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available online at the Adelante website, by going to the 'Student Resources' tab and clicking on the 'Scholarships' link. In addition to the online application form, the applicant must submit an official copy of his/her most recent college transcripts; a copy of his/her most recent financial award letter including his/her eligibility for federal or state-funded financial aid and a description of such aid including amounts and sources; a copy of his/her financial award letter from the previous academic year; proof of enrollment; two reference letters from well-known non-family members describing the student's leadership potential in under 250 words; responses to the student survey on a separate sheet of paper; and a copy of the student's resume. Applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
