Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to five awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must apply to Davidson College in North Carolina by Dec. 3.
  4. Must be a current high school senior to be nominated for this undergraduate award.
  5. Must demonstrate exemplary academic achievement and extraordinary potential. A candidate's record and recommendations must demonstrate purposeful engagement in the classroom, with student and civic organizations, on the athletic field, or in the arts. While academic achievement is paramount, Belk Scholars also exhibit intellectual curiosity and a commitment to both their local and global communities.
  6. Must plan to attend a college or university in North Carolina.

Description: The Davidson College John Montgomery Belk Scholarship is available for exemplary U.S. highschool seniors with an interest in attending Davidson College. Students must be nominated to be considered for this award.

Application requirements for the Davidson College John Montgomery Belk Scholarship are:

Additional Information: A candidate's record and recommendations must demonstrate purposeful engagement in the classroom, with student and civic organizations, on the athletic field, or in the arts. While academic achievement is paramount, Belk Scholars also exhibit intellectual curiosity and a commitment to both their local and global communities.

Award Amount: For each scholar, the Belk Scholarship provides comprehensive funding (tuition, fees, room and board). In addition, each scholar will be awarded two summer stipends, up to $3,000 each, to support intellectual, personal, and leadership development over the course of his/her college years. In recent years, Belk Scholars have used the stipends to explore passions in this country and abroad.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $260,000.

Each applicant must be nominated by his/her respective guidance counselor, head of school, or principal for this award. Each school may only nominate one student, based on his/her outstanding academic achievement, stellar character, intellectual promise, leadership, and service commitment. A completed nomination must include high school transcripts and a recommendation letter, to be received by Nov. 1. In addition to the nomination, each applicant must also apply for admission to Davidson College by November 22 via the online or printable PDF application and submit the appropriate additional materials, including essays, SAT/ACT scores, etc. For specific instructions and materials to be submitted, students should view the application. Semifinalists will be required to partake in phone interviews in February, and finalists will be interviewed by a selection committee in March.
