Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In prior academic years, 20 awards were provided.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll in an accredited program leading to certification as an RN or LPN.
  3. Must enroll full time.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  5. Must rank in the upper half of his/her graduating class if a high school senior.
  6. Must have a cumulative, unweighted grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  7. Must be a legal resident of Delaware.
  8. Must be a high school senior or current undergraduate.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for Delaware residents and state employees who are pursuing an RN or LPN program. All students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher; high school seniors must also rank in the top half of their class.

Application requirements for the Delaware Nursing Incentive Program are:

Additional Information: Current state employees do not have to be Delaware residents and may be eligible for awards for part-time enrollment. RNs with five or more years of state service may enroll in a BSN program on a full- or part-time basis.

Award Amount: The award is in the form of a forgivable loan that is worth $5,000 annually for bachelor degree programs and $2,500 annually for associate degree programs. The loan is renewable for up to three additional years. The loan will be forgiven at a rate of one year of employment at a state-owned hospital or clinic for one year of loan. The following hospitals and centers are eligible: Governor Bacon Health Center, Emily P. Bissell Hospital, Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Delaware Psychiatric Center, Delaware Veterans Home, or Stockley Center.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,013.

Applications are available at the Delaware Higher Education Office (DHEO) website. Most DHEO programs will require the student to submit additional documents including an unofficial transcript, SAT scores, and updated college enrollment information by the scholarship deadline. Students should follow the instructions in the Common Merit Application carefully. The Common Merit Application must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on the deadline date.
