The Esperanza Education Fund

Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately seven awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be an immigrant or the child of two immigrants.
  3. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  4. Must be graduating from a high school in Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia.
  5. Must attend a public college or university.

Description: This scholarship is available to U.S. students residing in District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia who plan to attend a public college or university. Applicants must have immigrated to the U.S. since birth, or have two parents who were both immigrants.

Additional Information: The Esperanza Education Fund, Inc. is a community-financed college scholarship and mentorship program founded and operated by a diverse, all-volunteer group of young professionals in the capital region. Since its founding in 2009, the Esperanza Education Fund has provided more than $450,000 in scholarships to immigrant students in the United States.

Award Amount: $5,000 to $20,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $35,000.

Applications and information about this scholarship can be found on The Esperanza Education Fund website at the address provided. To apply, students must complete the online application as well as the two essay questions listed on the application. The student must also submit two letters of recommendation. Finalists will be required to submit official transcripts as well as reports from standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT. All applications must be submitted online prior to the deadline date.
