Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 75 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must be a high school senior who will earn a diploma or GED by the start of the upcoming school year.
  4. Must enroll full time in a certificate or degree program.
  5. Must graduate from one of the following Orange County or Windsor County (VT) high schools: Black River High School, Blue Mountain Union High School, Chelsea Public School, Green Mountain Union High School, Hartford High School, Mid Vermont Christian School, Oxbow High School, Randolph Union High School, Rochester School, Sharon Academy, South Royalton High School, Springfield High School, Thetford Academy, Whitcomb High School, Williamstown Middle High School, Windsor High School, or Woodstock Union High School.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to high school seniors who are graduating from select high schools in Orange and Windsor counties in Vermont. Students must demonstrate financial need and school/community involvement. Vermont residency is not required for this award.

Additional Information: The Gilman Foundation created this scholarship to promote academic growth and achievement in order to foster greater individual earning power and a skilled labor force. Recipients are selected by an independent selection committee not comprised of Gilman Foundation Board members. Please note: Vermont residency is NOT required for this award. Applicants must: plan to attend an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding; demonstrate financial need; and demonstrate school/community involvement. Selection is based on financial need and application documents. There are approximately 350 applications received for this scholarship each year.

Award Amount: Up to $5,000 annually, may be renewable for three additional years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,000.

Applications are available from the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) website. Applications may be completed either online or in paper form beginning on November 1. Please note: The student is only required to submit one application for all scholarships for which he/she wishes to apply. In addition, if a particular document is required for more than one scholarship, the student need only submit one copy of that document. To apply, the student must complete and submit the VSAC Unified Scholarship Application and submit the following materials: a letter of recommendation; an essay; and official transcripts. NOTE: Required additional materials MUST conform to the detailed instructions in the VSAC Scholarships Booklet. The student is highly encouraged to review the booklet thoroughly when assembling materials. Electronic applications and any digital versions of supplemental materials must be submitted by midnight on the deadline date. Paper applications or any supplemental materials in paper form must be postmarked by the deadline date.
