Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award provided annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an undergraduate or graduate program.
  2. This award is for U.S. students and international students studying in the U.S.
  3. Must be a cancer patient or survivor.
  4. Must enroll full time.
  5. Must attend California State University at Fullerton.

Description: The Frank the Tank Scholarship is provided for cancer survivors who are enrolled at or planning to enroll at California State University, Fullerton.

Application requirements for the Frank the Tank Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letter
  • Copy of prior year tax return
  • Confirmation of cancer diagnosis
Additional Information: The Frank the Tank Scholarship is offered annually to cancer survivors who are enrolled at or planning to enroll at California State University at Fullerton. The award is provided in memory of Francisco Javier Lozoya, known affectionately by friends and family as Frank, or "Frank the Tank." Frank battled tenaciously against a recurring brain tumor before finally succombing to the disease in early 2016, at the young age of 32. Students at CSU Fullerton who have been diagnosed with cancer yet demonstrate Frank's determination and perserverance will be considered for financial assistance through this scholarship program.

Award Amount: Scholarship awards are typically made in the amount of $5,000 annually but may be reduced if the student's financial aid documentation shows a lower amount of unmet need. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years of study.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $16,000.

To be considered for an award, students must submit the following: a completed application; official transcripts for the last two years of academic work completed; a copy of tax returns from the prior year (or other proof of income if not available); a letter confirming the student's cancer diagnosis; two recommendation letters from individuals who are not related to the applicant; and information about the cost to attend one year of study at the applicant's current or intended college.
