Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, one scholarship was awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must possess a valid California ID.
  3. Must be a high school senior or current undergraduate student.
  4. Must have an interest in international agricultural trade. The student may pursue studies in areas such as agriculture, economics, business, international studies, language studies, etc.
  5. Must enroll in the fall at an accredited California four-year college/university, community college, or trade school.
  6. Must be a California resident.
  7. Must enroll full time.
  8. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Description: This scholarship is open to California high school seniors and undergraduate students who have an interest in international agricultural trade and intend to pursue studies in areas such as agriculture, economics, business, international studies, language studies, etc. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: The Friends of the California State Fair Scholarship Program is a collaborative effort between the Friends of the California State Fair, the California Exposition & State Fair, the California State Fair Agricultural Advisory Council, the Ironstone Concours D'Elegance Foundation, Blue Diamond Growers, and Western Fairs Association. An independent selection committee will evaluate the applications and select the recipients considering community service, academics, and the application essay(s). Notifications are sent to recipients and applicants not selected to receive an award via email mid to late April. The recipient of this award will be asked to attend the State Fair Gala Dinner to accept the award. The top scholarship winners in each category (if application score is at least 95 percent) qualify to compete for the overall $5,000 Ironstone Concours Foundation Scholarship Interview on a date TBA in Sacramento. The runner-up scholarship winner in any category with more than 20 qualified applicants will also have the opportunity to compete for the overall scholarship if his/her application score is at least 95 percent. Employees and immediate family members of employees and Board of Directors of the California Exposition and State Fair, Friends of the California State Fair, the California State Fair Agricultural Council, Cultural Advisory Committee, and the Ironstone Concours Foundation are not eligible for this program.

Award Amount: Scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,500 annually, non-renewable. Last year, a $2,500 scholarship was awarded.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available online from the California Exposition & State Fair website. Students must apply online via the International Scholarship and Tuition Services (ISTS) application system. Students must create an account if they do not have one already. The program key is FCSF. Students may apply for only one scholarship category and must select the category for which they wish to be considered on the online application. Each student must upload the following supporting documents to the online application: high school and/or college transcripts, as appropriate; a personal statement of 500 words or less (must address the topics listed on the application); an essay of 500 words or less (must address the topic listed on the application); and a recommendation (instructions provided within the application). If the student cannot upload documents to the application, he/she should follow the provided instructions for submission by mail. Completed applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. PT on the deadline date.
