Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must be a graduating high school senior to apply for this freshman year award.
  5. Must graduate from an Aurora, Colorado public high school.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. graduating high school seniors who have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and attend an Aurora, Colorado public high school are eligible for this award. Students must submit two or more expository writing pieces to apply.

Additional Information: This award is intended to reward a writer who can create a strong single effect on his/her audience through a portfolio of expository pieces.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in November for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available online from the Aurora Public Schools (APS) Education Foundation website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit transcripts, one letter of recommendation, and two or more expository writing pieces. Each piece must be between 800 and 1,500 words in length and double-spaced. Any material coming form an outside source must be appropriately documented using APA, MLA, or other similar style manual. Expository pieces may include, but are not limited to, research papers, essays, personal essays, memoirs, or articles. Fiction and poetry pieces will not be accepted. Each piece should take risks in terms of language to show the author knows how to manipulate language for voice. Writing should demonstrate a strong use of rhythm, diction and utilize a strong tone. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted by 4 p.m. on the deadline date.
