Number of Awards & Eligibility: various awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must have a recent history of movement for agricultural employment. Priority will be given to currently interstate migrant youth.
  3. Must be enrolled in or accepted at an accredited public or private college, technical or vocational school, or be a dropout or potential dropout from high school who shows promise of ability to continue schooling.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Students who show recent history of movement for agricultural employment and are enrolled or accepted at a postsecondary institution OR are high school dropouts or potential dropouts are eligible to apply. Applications are available by contacting the Geneseo Migrant Center.

Additional Information: The purpose of the Gloria and Joseph Mattera National Scholarship Fund for Migrant Children is to assist financially those migrant youth who have the potential and the desire to further their education to achieve their personal and career goals. Grant amounts are determined by the screening committee on the basis of background in migrant farmwork, financial need, and potential of the youth.

Award Amount: $150 to $500 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply annually, but are limited to one award per twelve-month period.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available online from the Geneseo Migrant center website. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit a letter of recommendation from a school, community or educational agency representative with a personal knowledge of the applicant's character, educational commitment and financial need; a personal essay including his/her background, career, and personal goals and indicating why he/she should receive this assitance; proof that he/she has been admitted to the school chosen; and a copy of his/her current or most recent Migrant Education Program Certificate of Elegibility (COE). All applications and supporting documents must be postmarked by the deadline date.
