Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a 4-H member.
  3. Must plan to enroll full time.
  4. Must be a high school senior at time of application who will be enrolling at an accredited college or university.
  5. Must be a resident of the Northeast District of North Carolina. For district information, see www.ces.ncsu.edu/local-county-center/ .

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors who are 4-H members and residents of the Northeast District of North Carolina.

Application requirements for the Gordon E. Sawyer Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Photograph
  • Test scores
  • Resume
Additional Information: Please note: All eligible students must have filed an application for admission to at least one institution of higher learning, and must arrange for and take the SAT and/or ACT. It is the student's responsibility to make all arrangements for college admissions. Selection will be based on the following: 4-H record (50 percent); scholastic achievement as measured by performance in high school courses (25 percent); and college aptitude as measured by performance on college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT (25 percent). Recipients will be selected in March. Recipients must attend the 4-H Scholarships and Awards Luncheon held during the N.C. 4-H Congress. Recipients may be required to attend the CALS Donor Recognition Event in the fall.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. All 4-H scholarships will be paid directly to the college or university. They will not be made payable to the recipient nor his/her parents.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
