Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, there were 15 grants awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a graduating high school senior at time of application.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Must be a resident of Colorado, Georgia, North Carolina, or Illinois.
  5. Must be graduating from a high school in Colorado, Georgia, North Carolina, or Illinois.
  6. Must have an unweighted grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  7. Must demonstrate financial need with an annual household income of $70,000 or less.

Description: High school seniors residing in Colorado, Georgia, or Illinois who have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are eligible for this award. Students must have a household income of $70,000 or less.

Application requirements for the Greenhouse Scholars Scholarship are:

Additional Information: To be eligible, the student must demonstrate a strong interest and commitment to the community, demonstrate an ablility to persevere through difficult circumstances, and possess excellent leadership skills. Winners of the scholarship will be notified by email and phone on the week in April.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $5,000 annually, renewable for up to three additional years. The exact amount awarded is determined by the specific financial need of each recipient. Recipients also receive the following through the Greenhouse Scholars program: a community mentor; an internship of 200+ hours; participation in the Peer Support Program; participation in the summer symposium; and participation in the Professional Liaison program.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.

Applications are available online from the Greenhouse Scholars website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must submit the following documents online: a transcript that includes his/her most recent fall semester grades, unweighted and weighted grade point average, and class rank (if available); an official copy of his/her ACT scores; a short response that describe his/her accomplishments, awards, and community involvement; and contact information for three individuals who will write a letter of recommendation on the applicant's behalf. One recommendation letter must be from a core academic teacher or guidance counselor. The second letter can be from a teacher, guidance counselor, or an adult who is not affiliated with academic activities such as: an employer, coach, scoutmaster, community service coordinator, or religious mentor. The third letter must be from a friend or peer who is a non-relative.
