Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international students. Please note: Students must be ineligible for federal and/or state financial aid to apply for this award. It is preferred that students have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals status.
  2. Must be a high school senior or current college student.
  3. Must attend or have graduated from a high school located in Berks County, Pennsylvania, AND must have a current primary home located in Berks County.
  4. Must be 30 years of age or under.
  5. Must enroll full time.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or an 85 percent or higher on a 100-percent scale. The grade point average must have been earned in high school if the student is a senior or has not yet attended college; otherwise, the grade point average must have been earned in college.
  7. Must have a family income equal to 187 percent of the federal poverty level or less (approximately $44,000 for a family of four).

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is for high school seniors and college students who are not eligible for federal/state financial aid; it is preferred that applicants have DACA status. Students must graduate from Berks County, PA, high schools and reside in Berks County; students must also have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and a family income that is 187 percent of the federal poverty level or less.

Additional Information: This fund was established in 2013 to provide college scholarships to students who are not eligible for federal and/or Pennsylvania financial aid or is/are otherwise ineligible for financial aid. It is preferred that applicants have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals status or is/are otherwise ineligible for financial aid. Applicants will be notified in May. Berks County Community Foundation employees, board members and/or committee members are not eligible to apply for or be nominated for a scholarship offered by Berks County Community Foundation, nor are their immediate family members. However, immediate family members are eligible to be nominated and recognized as the recipient of a scholarship, but without the financial award of the scholarship. Immediate families include spouses; children, stepchildren, grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, and their respective spouses; siblings and their spouses; and ancestors. The ineligibility period for Berks County Community Foundation board members or employees and their family members extends five years after board service or employment terminates. The ineligibility period for committee members who are not Berks County Community Foundation staff or board is in effect only during their term of service and is only related to the committee on which they make decisions.

Award Amount: The award amount varies annually. Awards are non-renewable. Previous recipients must reapply each year if they want to be considered for another scholarship from this fund. Recipients may receive a maximum of four annual scholarships from this fund.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,361.

Applications are available on the Berks County Community Foundation (BCCF) website. All applicants must apply via the BCCF online application. Students must create an account to access the application. As part of the application, the student will be required to submit the following materials: an essay of 250 to 500 words that addresses the topics listed on the application; his/her most recent high school or college transcript; financial information; a copy of his/her Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals status card, if available; and a copy of his/her or his/her parents'/guardians' most recent federal tax return. Applications must be submitted by the deadline date.
