Number of Awards & Eligibility: A total of 10 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of one of the following counties in California: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, or Sonoma.
  3. Must be in grades K through 12.
  4. Students of all backgrounds including those of Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Afghani, Cambodian, Native Hawaiian, Pakistani, Thai, other South Asian, Southeast Asian, Asian, Pacific Islander ethnic groups or those of mixed heritage are invited to submit entries.

Application requirements for the ‘Growing Up Asian in America’ Art and Writing Contest are:

  • Application form
  • Art piece/essay/poem
Additional Information: Art, writing, and video entries are judged separately. Winners will be selected from qualifying entries by a panel of judges who will look at the following: creativity and orginality; ideas and feelings; and skill in the category. Winners will be contacted in early April. Winners from previous years are not eligible to win in the same grade category (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12); students may enter again if they have moved up to the next grade category. Children of judges are not eligible.

Award Amount: $500 each for students placing in the art and writing competitions.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

This is an art and writing contest. To enter, students must submit an entry form (available on the Asian Pacific Fund website) and a video, art piece, essay, or poem on the current contest theme. Theme details and suggestions for entries are available on the Asian Pacific Fund website. Guidelines for art and writing entries are also available on the website. No more than one entry in each category per student will be considered. Each entry must have its own entry form. The student must submit his/her entry and an entry form to the address provided, postmarked or hand-delivered by the deadline date (if hand-delivered, the entry must be received by 5 p.m. PST). Video and media entries must be submitted online at the link provided.
