Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered annually varies depending on the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be African American.
  2. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  3. Must plan to major in education.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must have an ACT score of 20 or higher, or a combined math/verbal SAT score of 1000 or higher.
  6. Must reside in Pinellas County, Florida.
  7. This award is for U.S. students.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for African American high school seniors in Pinellas County Florida who plan to major in education. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and an ACT score of 20 or higher, or an SAT math and verbal score of 1000 or higher.

Additional Information: Funded by the Allen family, this scholarship is awarded each year to a Pinellas-county high school senior who demonstrates a strong academic record. Preference will be given to African-American students as well as students who demonstrate unmet financial need. Finalists will be required to submit an additional essay and conduct an interview with the program sponsor. Students selected to receive a scholarship will be required to attend and participate in the Allen's annual Tribute to Leadership of Excellence award function or they will forfeit the scholarship.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, depending on the amount of available funding and the number of qualified applicants. All awards are provided one time and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and information about this award are available online at the Pinellas Education Foundation website using the link provided. To be considered for this award, students must complete an online application form consisting of 12 steps. Completed applications will include information about the following items: the student's academic record; participation in community, service, and extracurricular activities; financial need as detailed in the Student Aid Report obtained by filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); information about subjects the student is interested in their respective majors; as well as the names of any colleges or universities the student has applied to or been accepted to. The student's academic information may be sent directly from his/her high school. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
