Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 75 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be 25 years of age or younger.
  3. Must be a dependent child of a full-time or part-time Humana Inc. associate who has a minimum of three years continuous employment with the company as of the application deadline date. Part-time employees must have an average of twenty hours per week or more for the last three years. Associates from companies recently acquired by Humana must have one year or more of service with Humana in addition to two years prior service with the previous employer. Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the associate's household or primarily supported by the associate.
  4. Must enroll full time at an accredited college or university.
  5. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.
  6. Must be a legal resident of the United States or Puerto Rico.

Description: This award is for undergraduate students under the age of 25 who are dependent childen of full-time or part-time Humana Inc. associates. The applicant must be a resident of the U.S. or Puerto Rico.

Additional Information: The Humana Foundation Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to the children of employees of Humana Inc., who plan to pursue a college degree. The Humana Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Humana Inc., one of the nation's largest publicly traded health services companies. This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a department of Scholarship America. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, disability, or national origin. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, goals and aspirations stated in the application, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal as detailed in the scholarship application. Financial need is not considered. Recipients must enroll in a full-time course of study no later than the fall of the year following the awarding of the scholarship. Children of officers of Humana Inc. or its subsidiaries are ineligible to apply to the program.

Award Amount: Awards of $3,000 will be granted to children of full-time associates. Awards of $1,500 will be granted to children of part-time associates. These awards are offered annually and are renewable for up to three years or until a bachelor's degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by the Humana Foundation. Awards are to be used for tuition, fees, books, room and board, or other related educational expenses.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $9,000.

Applications are available online at the Humana Foundation website. Applications will be accepted between February 1 and March 11. Interested students must complete the application and mail it along with a current, complete official transcript of grades to Scholarship America. Online transcripts and grade reports are not acceptable. Upon receipt of the application, Scholarship America will email a confirmation. This email will have detailed instructions for completing the application process. If the applicant does not receive a confirmation card within three weeks from the date he/she mailed the original application, he/she should call Scholarship America and ask for the Humana Foundation Scholarship Program Manager.
