Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three to five awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must graduate from high school during the current academic year. The scholarship is for use during the following academic year.
  3. Must attend an Iowa high school.
  4. Must be an Iowa resident.
  5. Must be accepted as a full-time undergraduate student.
  6. Must plan to attend a fully accredited Iowa college or university.
  7. Must be seeking a degree in the arts. The applicant must have proven artistic ability in the areas of dance, literature, music, theatre, traditional arts or visual arts.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for Iowa students who have graduated this year and will be attending an Iowa college. Students must have proven artistic ability in dance, literature, music, theatre, traditional arts, or the visual arts, and major in one of those areas.

Application requirements for the Iowa Scholarship for the Arts are:

  • Application form
  • Recommendation letter
  • Essay
  • List of artistic achievements
  • Interview (finalists only)
Additional Information: The Iowa Arts Council will notify finalists by March 2. All sholarship recipients will be asked to attend an award ceremony in the spring.

Award Amount: $1,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available online on the Iowa Arts Council website by clicking on the 'Programs' link. The student must submit the following with his/her completed application: one letter of recommendation from an individual who is familiar with his/her artistic and academic abilities (family members may not write recommendations); and an essay addressing the topic listed on the application. In addition, one to five work samples must be provided that best represents the student's work. The application must be submitted by the deadline date.
