Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In prior years, there were 51 scholarships awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a minority. Please note: The JRF uses the U.S. Census Bureau definition of "minority". The student is encouraged to apply if he/she feels that he/she is part of a minority group.
  4. Must have an SAT score of 1000 or higher (critical reading and math only) OR an ACT composite score of 21 or higher.
  5. Must be a high school senior at time of application and plan to attend an accredited, approved four-year institution in the United States in the fall following high school graduation. Please note: The student cannot possess a degree from a two- or four-year college at time of application.
  6. Must demonstrate a commitment to community service.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides a multi-faceted experience designed to address financial needs of minority students pursuing an education. U.S minority high school seniors with SAT scores of 1000 or higher or ACT scores of 21 or higher are eligible. Financial need and other factors will be taken in consideration.

Application requirements for the Jackie Robinson Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Recommendation letter
  • ACT/SAT scores
  • Photograph
  • Interview (finalists only)
  • FAFSA
Additional Information: All applicants must show leadership potential and present evidence of financial need. Final selections will be announced in June 2019. Scholar Orientation will take place in July 2019.

Award Amount: Up to $7,500 annually, renewable for three additional years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $30,000.

Applications are available online on the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) website. The online application includes four essay questions. The student must have his/her ACT and/or SAT scores and his/her high school transcript available to complete the application. The student should enter his/her best ACT/SAT scores if he/she took the test(s) more than once. The JRF does not consider the writing scores as part of the examination. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a professional, high-resolution photograph in .jpg format (headshot only, may be high school graduation photo); one letter of recommendation (e.g., a teacher, a mentor, a guidance counselor, an employer); an official high school transcript (may be removed from sealed envelope for purpose of uploading to application); and a copy of his/her FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Applications and supporting documents are not accepted via mail, email, or fax. Applications and letters of recommendation will only be accepted via the JRF online application program. All application materials must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
