  2. Must be between the ages of 17 and 25.
  3. Must be a resident of Kansas City, MO.
  4. Must have a household income of 80% or less than the local median.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.

Additional Information: The Kansas City, Missouri Opportunities Scholarship is provided annually to students in Kansas City, MO who are between the ages of 17 and 25. Applicants must have a high level of academic achievement and significant unmet financial need. Award selection will be based on these factors as well as the strength of submitted essays and recommendation letters. This scholarship is administered through the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation (GKCCF), a local area charity founded in 1978 with the purpose of providing a dedicated and consolidated resource for diverse and otherwise unrelated charity efforts. From its humble beginnings, the scope of the GKCCF has expanded to include the broader regional area, as well as national inititatives, scholarships, and other programs designed to benefit communities across the country.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually. Awards are not automatically renewable, but previous recipients who remain eligible are able to apply for renewed funding in future years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and information about the Kansas City, Missouri Opportunities Scholarship are available online at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation (GKCCF) website. To be considered for this scholarship, students must submit a completed online application form as well as the following documents and responses to the supplemental questions: a completed educational budget section of the application; an essay of up to 300 words in length addressing the topic on the application; a brief personal statement detailing any unusual circumstances or causes of financial need; and a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, employer, or clergyman. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted online by the deadline date. Any late or incomplete submissions will be discarded.
