Number of Awards & Eligibility: Four awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  4. Must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university a full-time student (12 credits per semester for undergraduate; 9 credits per semester for graduate).
  5. Must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  6. Must be a resident of one of the following Kaua'i areas: Koloa (96756), including Oma'o & Po'ipu (96756), Lawai'i (96765), or Kalaheo (96741).

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who are residents of one of the following Kaua'i (HI) areas: Koloa (96756), including Oma'o & Po'ipu (96756), Lawai'i (96765), or Kalaheo (96741). Students must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

Additional Information: All applicants must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation (HCF) website. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed at the provider's website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. A typed, double-spaced essay must also be submitted for this scholarship. The student's name and the scholarship being applied for should appear on the essay. *Please note: The essay does not replace the personal statement. The essay should address the topic that is listed on the HCF website by clicking on the 'Supplemental Materials Required' link under the 'Koloa Scholarship' heading. Two letters of recommendation must also be submitted for this scholarship. These letters should be written by a teacher, counselor, minister, and/or employer who can comment on the applicant's overall character, achievement, and promise. The letters must be current, contain the applicant's full name, and be signed by the recommender. Note: Students WILL NOT be able to submit their application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. The application must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST on the deadline date.
