Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Maine.
  3. Must be attending or planning to attend a college in Maine.
  4. Must focus on the ecology and/or economics of Maine in his/her studies. The emphasis on these aspects with Maine as an intense background is structured to ensure that both the student and the state of Maine benefit from the scholarship and careers that result from the student's education.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. Must graduate from a Maine high school.
  7. Must be a high school senior who will enter college in the fall OR have graduated from high school in the past four years and plan to attend college in the fall.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors and students who have graduated from high school within the past four years who are Maine residents, graduate from a Maine high school, and plan to attend a Maine college. Students must have a desire to contribute to improving Maine's ecology or economy.

Additional Information: The Maine Difference Scholarship, a program funded by Lamey-Wellehan, is intended to aid in the cost of attaining an education for a Maine young person studying at a Maine college or university. Award Amount: $1,000 annually, renewable for up to three years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available online on the Lamey-Wellehan Shoes website.In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor; a transcript; and an essay on the topic of 'What would you like Maine to be like in 30 years and how would you personally like to be involved in shaping it?'. The application and all supporting materials must be sent to the address provided by the deadline date.
