In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  2. Must reside in Largo, Florida.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. Must have overcome a significant personal obstacle.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors residing in Largo Florida who have overcome a significant personal obstacle. Selection is based on academic record, community service participation, and financial need.

Additional Information: Provided annually by the Largo Lions Club, this scholarship is awarded to a student who has overcome a significant obstacle in life so as to achieve his/her goals regardless of adversity. The academic record, community service history, and financial need of applicants will also be considered during selection.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and information about this award are available online at the Pinellas Education Foundation website using the link provided. To be considered for this award, students must complete an online application form consisting of 12 steps. Completed applications will include information about the following items: the student's academic record; participation in community, service, and extracurricular activities; financial need as detailed in the Student Aid Report obtained by filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); information about subjects the student is interested in through a list of prospective majors; as well as the names of any colleges or universities the student has applied to or been accepted to. The student's academic information may be sent directly from his/her high school. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. To be considered for the Largo Lions Foundation Scholarship, students must also submit an additional essay describing a life obstacle and how the applicant overcame the challenge. All other application and supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
